Anita Saarkessian

Anita Sarkeesian (Canadian-American) is a feminist media critic also a speaker who is Canadian. She is the founder of Feminist Frequency a website that includes videos and comments on the representation of women in pop media. Anita Sarkeesian has been a journalist, media critic and a prestigious feminist for more than 10 years. Feminist Frequency is a not-for profit website that focuses on the representation of women in pop cultural narratives is founded and directed by Sarkeesian. In addition, she works to expose the issues surrounding the harassment and targeted attacks on women, others of minority groups in the online world, she is committed to breaking down stereotypes that are associated with pop culture. Sarkeesian holds a York University master's in social philosophy, political and philosophical thinking. Apart from being a popular public speaker, she's given presentations at TEDxWomen XOXO Conference and United Nations Broadband Working Group. Interested in issues concerning gender identities and feminisms from the age of 7, she started her site Feminist Frequency in 2009 while studying at the university. She had a plan to start a web-based series examining gender representation in video games and was the subject of a harassment online campaign. However the attack could be a deterrent, but it only strengthened her resolve as a feminist critic of media. Her numerous contributions to the feminist field were recognized by a variety of awards. Anita Sarkeesian, a media journalist who has received numerous awards and created Feminist Frequency, an educational organization that focuses on the ways women are depicted within media narratives.
