JoyceDeWitt started performing on stage when she was 13. DeWitt was a graduate of Ball State University with a Bachelor's of Arts. During her summer stock performance, she was convinced by the director to attend UCLA's Department of Theater MFA Program. She was awarded the Master of Fine Arts Fellowship and the Clifton Webb Scholarship. Dewitt said that she had not ever met Abe Vigoda during her time at UCLA. DeWitt is most well-known for her role as Janet Wood during the 1977-1984 run of sitcom Three's Company, a job she got after being selected for the show's second pilot. Janet was also in an episode of the show The Ropers in which she starred in 1979. After Three's Company ended in 1984, DeWitt appeared in an episode of Finder of Lost Loves in 1984, following which she resigned from acting for several years. In June 1991, she returned to acting, playing the role of Noises Off at Michigan's Cherry County Playhouse. [1] She later appeared in the 1995 TV comedy film Spring Fling! Pinky and the Brain aired an episode in 1997 that featured the character that was based off her. It was voiced partly by another actress. She was featured in an episode of Cybill and also made an appearance in Living Single's final episode. She's been on TV shows like Hope Island, The Nick at Nite Holiday Special, and Call of the Wild in 2000.
